Students from Kelvin Hall and The Boulevard Academy joined other Hull secondary schools at Hull University this morning for an 'Oh Yes, Net Zero' event. This was to write bids for grants of £1,300 to use for Eco projects at school. They heard first-hand from two successful bid-writers from Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust about the processes they go through to secure funding plus useful tips to help them fill out their forms. Alex Best, the Group Deputy Director of Capital Services and Marc Beaumont, the Head of Sustainability for the trust gave their expert advice to our young people.

This is such a fantastic initiative, Paul! Supporting students in bid-writing not only empowers their voices but also builds real-world skills. In fields like healthcare and sustainability, specialist biostatistical programmers often rely on well-structured grants to fund impactful research—so teaching this early is a brilliant step forward!
