Peer Mentoring

Peer Mentoring, plus other support at The Boulevard Academy

Over 20 Year 10s have undertaken 10 hours of purposeful training to become peer mentors. The training was delivered by Cornerhouse and we are now in a position to support students not only through adult support but also through peers.

A stated referral system is in place and Cornerhouse staff will match the mentee and the mentor together to ensure effective peer support can be given. If at any time the mentor feels they need to seek advice from an adult then supervision times will be allocated for our peer mentors.

We believe this is an effective way to support our young people, especially in times of transition from primary school.
Through an effective programme both the mentee and the mentor benefit as they grow to become confident, balanced, resilient young people.

Every Thursday, Turn to Us are coming into the Academy to support any young person. They are from the youth service and are able to provide one to one support at lunchtime or can sign post to other places for help. If your child is at the Academy they can just speak to Charlotte at any time over their lunchtime on Thursday.

We take emotional well-being of our students very seriously and every member of the Academy in July 2018 completed a mental health first aid training. This training has given all staff the basic skills to identify students who may be needing additional support. The staff will then signpost these students to our more experienced and qualified staff to access further support.

If you wish to know more about the additional support we offer to young people then please do contact The Boulevard Academy.
